INSTRUCTIONS

Choose one of these writing topics and write an article (around 500 to 600 words).

The piece must be original, interesting and entertaining, and of course the overall language quality should be high.  (We've studied stylistics, adverbials and adjectives in this unit, so you should have a lot of language).

Give yourself plenty of time to do the research for the writing topic - it's worth it.

N.B. Please write about Angers or around Angers...

WRITING TOPICS (choose one)

1) At the Market

Write an account of an unusual encounter you had while at a market, whether it was with a local, another traveller, or a different species. You may want to include quotes and creative descriptions, to show why the experience was interesting or affecting. Suggested markets include street markets, flea markets, country auctions...even a village Intermarché or a city supermarket on a Saturday morning.

2) Hidden Places to Eat and Drink

Many tourists hope to find authentically local places to eat.  Find an eating / drinking establishment usually only frequented by local residents. Avoid tourist spots and fast-food chains. Instead, choose something that you think a tourist might miss on a casual visit.   Write an informative and entertaining review of the place, full of specific detail and description. Don't forget any interactions you notice between people.

3) A Journey to ... Somewhere

Make a journey – it can be of any distance, and on any form of transport, or perhaps a journey in a more metaphorical sense. It can be a road trip, a train ride, or even taking the bus to the end of the line. Write about it.

4) Neighborhood Visit

Spend an afternoon walking around an interesting neighbourhood and write about the experience. This neighborhood should be accessible, but not necessarily the most touristy.  You may want to include unusual homes, local parks, remarkable churches, landmarks  or even schools, in your account.  Don't forget the people you may meet...
