On Friday evening, I went to the well-known bakery in Les Ponts-de-Cé, Maison Janneau. As you enter the bakery on your right, the first baked goods you see are various quiches, burgers, sandwiches, and fougasses. All with different tastes like bacon, chicken, eggs, and veggie with spinach and cheese, and filled to the brim to satiate you after a long morning or day. Then the pastries come into view, with first the eclairs, some filled with Nutella, chocolate, coffee, or vanilla. After the eclairs some other pastries, like religieuses, tarts, and some pastries that are traditional to the region, like Val de Loire. Closer to the counter were baked cakes like brownies, crepes and chouquettes. At this point on your left, a stall with golden brown soft brioches is installed, these are buttery goodnesses, just as is or toasted. On the left of the counter are the monuments of the French culinary culture abroad: croissants, along with pains au chocolat and some other pastries like Swiss brioche, these little pastries with pastry cream and chocolate chips. Finally, behind the counter, in the far back of the shop, are the racks of bread and baguettes, all in different shapes and with various tastes, you can buy a traditional baguette, a farmhouse bread, a sourdough bread, a baguette with a variety of seeds or even a baguette with raisins, almonds and other dried fruits and nuts.
